its unusual for me to react so strongly to practically anything i guess most brutality is either (i) executed by individuals without much power, or (ii) sterilized by ritual and convention and hidden behind walls and oceans and the saudis just dont bother with that

lots of disgust for the administration as well probably this mirrors (i) and (ii) all administrations lie, this one just badly? there's no curtain in front of the brick wall? probably more than that seems like many pols would at least be disgusted privately

i think maybe the viscerally upsetting point is the private sadism governments kill and otherwise brutalize at scale as a matter of course that i guess i object to with some kind of consequentialist stance this though seems to violate something more primitive

it kinda /does/ check off most of the common explicitly-listed aggravating circumstances for murder -- it was not only premeditated but carried out by lying in wait, and both poison and torture were used on the victim :(

(given those lists of aggravating circumstances were created as lists of what would make a homicide so utterly *heinous* that society would see it OK to kill (with premeditation, even!) the one who did the killing, it does make sense that you find this particularly upsetting)

(that it happened in a consulate is also gruesome; the worst that's expected to happen in embassies/consulates is usually like...espionage and SIGINT (which afaict is tolerated because everyone does it to everyone else and everyone knows it), not fucking wetwork)

part of the whole idea of diplomatic immunity is that diplomats really aren't supposed to be luring in people for the purpose of having them tortured to death and dismembered by trained thugs that are present specifically for the occasion; this is perfidy
