lots of disgust for the administration as well probably this mirrors (i) and (ii) all administrations lie, this one just badly? there's no curtain in front of the brick wall? probably more than that seems like many pols would at least be disgusted privately

i think maybe the viscerally upsetting point is the private sadism governments kill and otherwise brutalize at scale as a matter of course that i guess i object to with some kind of consequentialist stance this though seems to violate something more primitive

if they had just shot him in the head in private it would have been awful business as usual but there was no practical reason to saw him to pieces while he was alive except to make him suffer it was expected to be *private*, they couldnt expect to even send a message

maybe what I mean/think/feel is that the horrors of the 20th century that we're half accustomed to are mechanical and institutionalized this seems like an older kind of crime

Seems to me they didn't try to hide what happened too hard, that they're either daring the rest of the world to react or they are just unable to see how this could cause serious blowback. (Also this can't be the only time they're people have done something like this.)
-
oh no its gotta be on the regular my guess is they were expecting to get away scot free and they just fucking suck at what they do

One one hand, sadistic cultures can change, at least on the surface. Look at Germany & even Japan to an extent. On the other hand, that kind of transformation required regime change plus pulverizing much of the country. But Saudi Arabia is probably a tougher nut to crack.

just wait til you see that bbc africa video where they live-execute the kids and women in it
-
i honestly cant actually watch this kind of thing, damned inveterate empathic reaction to representations of meatspace events there's no way im going to be able to listen to the audio here
-
The executions don't fuss me as much ever since I watched people get knifed to death a few times.
-
Certainly fair. Have you seen shovel dog?
-
nop. It's kind of ridiculous how dying works, especially via gunshot through a critical area, you expect it to be this production but it's not much more than the cutting of a puppet's strings.
-
I'd tend to agree with that to some extent. Shovel dog's something I think every dog owner should see at some point but I could never actually have them watch it in reality.
-
It's not as bad as the kerosene one but it's still incredibly disturbing and ruining.
-
I am not a dog owner. I mostly watched the death videos for commentary around the deaths, because some of them feature people fighting back (or failing to) and some people try to pick apart how to make that work. Though it also banished whatever special fear or curiosity I had.
