Interesting to politicize a script A: My life is pretty good Blue tribe: You're privileged Red tribe: thank God/you worked hard for it Nobody: That's good to hear, I'm happy for you

I don't want to talk about who is right or wrong here. The interesting part is that something that was once meaningful at a personal level becomes a political tool

Let's say that someone wants to reduce your status. Knowing their tribe, you can word things to make it a bit difficult. A: I've worked hard and made a lot of money Red tribe [frustrated]: Well, that's true but...(something about being grateful to God)

If you tried that phrasing on a blue tribe person, it would signal being part of the outgroup

Another one A: I think there are some good [outgroup] ideas B: You are [outgroup] and therefore wrong about everything

A: I believe ABC B: All the people who believe that also say that XYZ. Are you trying to say XYZ? This one's tough. The heuristic often works, but B is still acting in bad faith

Most conversations are bad. the good ones are good enough that it's worth having conversations. This is the bleak VC theory of human interaction
