hmm i'd say research would mean the systematic acquisition of specific novel knowledge and scholarship the broader but close acquaintance with the field to which such new knowledge would belong -not certain tho as this is not my first language
-
Scholarship = reading all the books, research = gathering information. There's definitely overlap in usage though
-
you need some amount of scholarship in order to be familiar enough with the territory that you can do effective research
-
Hence why I'm much less condemnatory-by-default of scholarship than the other words / concepts / practices I listed
-
right you just don't believe it is valuable enough to be institutional or subject to quality control, and you're wrong about that
-
Shrug. I'm not against effective quality control (for example having skin in the game), I just don't think academia does that for many disciplines
-
you may not be against it but you also don't care (because scholarship is, in your own words, iffy), which is to say you don't have any of that skin, in that game
-
I mean, why would I?
