aw, I can't. Learning is a significant component of The Good
-
Totally agree! Just not much of it generated on campuses
-
There's a persuasive argument to be made for research academics as a place for specialists to try wild-ass shit, fail cheaply and quickly, and thus expand the envelope That's not how research actually works, though
-
(Well, not in all the academia I've seen, and not in the industry think-tanks I'm aware of)

I have contempt for academia, college, university, higher ed, in that order. Scholarship per se is iffy
-
see that's clearly not 'all of us', what's wrong with scholarship?
-
"scholarship" is a shibboleth — consider the different valence of "research"
-
idk research without scholarship seems a very misguided notion to me
-
I don't know that I understand the distinction entirely (????)
-
hmm i'd say research would mean the systematic acquisition of specific novel knowledge and scholarship the broader but close acquaintance with the field to which such new knowledge would belong -not certain tho as this is not my first language
-
Scholarship = reading all the books, research = gathering information. There's definitely overlap in usage though
-
you need some amount of scholarship in order to be familiar enough with the territory that you can do effective research
