In the 70s, 80s, 90s we quoted slogans or couched things as faux ad copy. We'd had Zappa, Monty Python, SNL, SCTV, etc point out consumerism as the air we breathed and we ran with it. Maybe "a stopped clock" and "what it says on the tin" and "LAMP" all serve the same social role?
