Normally I am pro parasite eradication, but I would to wait at least ten years or so until CRISPR becomes very boring and familiar technology before using it on a species in the wild. Also, assuming biohacking becomes widespread, this is Great Filter level dangerous stuff.
-
hmmmmmmmmm seems like we could hack right back though (???)
-
If the species collapses do we currently have the ability to clone mosquitos? I don't think we do. I mean the problem is total collapse. This is an absurdly complex system.
-
no I mean on the great filter side also I hope not, would prefer we take these fuckers out also re systems collapse were gonna see god knows how many more extinctions from environmental damage anyway plus you know ten thousand years of prior genocides system is v robust so far
-
I dont mean to be cavalier, im very pro-environment in my values (sort of, something something wild animal suffering) and I would prefer to preserve much of it (same caveat) but im skeptical of collapse because mosquito absence
-
I worry a lot more about say mosquitos than cheetahs. Top of the food chain extinction? Life goes on mostly. Bottom of the food chain? Oh God, fuck, fuck, fuck.

I worry more about the things that ear such things and what taking them away means to the ecosystem. Does that cause more problems to humanity than malaria? I don't know because we haven't studied it.
-
I say this as someone who seeks out GMO food at the supermarket.
