Robin "gentle silent rape" Hanson? I wish people would talk over him more often TBH.... Hmmm why am I following you though?
-
hi! i gently suggest you're missing the point of his argument given your use of that quote; or perhaps pattern matching him to actual Bad People its helpful to think of hanson as a saint from a strange planet who has no ability to judge the implications of his words for hoomans
-
Hi. I have read quite a few of his blogs and articles.Have you been sexually assaulted before? I think you'd be hard pressed to find an assault survivor who doesn't find his writing abborhent. I'm sure misogyny isn't the point of his articles but it's hard to see past.

Did you get to wage gap? He proposes society as an abstract problem-solving mechanism (also an abstract democracy) which is better because of the wage gap and racism He thinks that markets are not people (maybe they are robots, it's relatively true, but he meant something else)
-
I think there is a great problem in communication. Professional economists went away from the market as an all-encompassing abstract entity of volunteer monetary interaction.
-
They talk about specific and different types of markets as relatively well-defined abstract types of human interactions.
-
One can think about consciously designed markets as machines or interfaces for human interaction, but these kinds of public description have some weird and stupid connotations of the books by Philip Murkowski ("neoliberalism is scary").
-
Interesting Maybe compressed: my intuition was something like communicating ideas about markets to laity is difficult and most economists are not talented here But the particular ideas we consider have changed to make this even harder?
-
thought: maybe there's a similarity between economics and game design
-
Sometimes I dream that economic historians will work at game dev and we will have many different weird Paradox-like strategies.
-
On a serious note, in the other thread, we talked about Machine Dreams by Mirowski. It wraps up a story about computing and economics, it's similar in this sense. pdf: https://monoskop.org/images/7/76/Mirowski_Philip_Machine_Dreams_Economics_Becomes_a_Cyborg_Science.pdf …
