....easily? judging people harshly for holding shitty ethical systems is super easy, you just do it. why would I care about how/why they acquired those ethical systems, that ain't no kind of excuse
the ancients didn't have access to our Moral Technology so we judge them less harshly than the wicked today who hold heretical views is the position you almost espoused with "that sounds reasonable"

Circumstances ameliorate judgement but not elide it; you were proposing that we can't call a set of ethics evil if the holder of them just didn't know any better, and that kind of rank relativism won't fly.
