D&D tip: carry extra equipment. I just disarmed a trap with a shovel.

The curve at the end of the shovel actually is what let me pull the handle to trigger the trap. Then my wooden shovel was splintered into pieces, instead of my half-orc's arm.

Oh, idea for dungeon dressing: a necromancer's been through and looted this part, (almost!) all the traps are sprung with bits of zombie gore still stuck in the mechanisms

ooh that's a good idea. Especially for a lower level trap, where you're really expecting them to avoid it.
