I don't hate universities per se, I just hate credentialism, the endless debates around university, the way it is funded, the way that anyone who isn't tenured is treated, lectures in general, etc etc etc etc
Did I ever tell you how me and a few mates were messing around and swearing a lot and an old woman came over (not staff) and was like "YOUNG MEN STOP SWEARING HAVE SOME RESPECT, THIS IS A RUSSELL GROUP UNIVERSITY"
oh gosh I think i do hate the universities but only because I grew up around a campus and so im not just unhappy with them but disillusioned embittered apostasy I guess
Oh everyone hates students tho. Forgot about those. They suck
I think university should be a thing you go to when you're like 30
Tbh all the mature students that were on my course worked about 2x harder than any of the kids just out of school. Probably they all chose to be there stop their jobs etc etc I actually mostly stuck around with the older people by chance. ...
Went to the pub with a guy I thought was my age in Freshers week, all his friends were clearly older than me. I was like oh so is this the mature students society and like people there were 23-30. Most of them good friends now.
And to get back to the point. The two ~55 year old men in the class worked the hardest for sure. One guy had hearing problems and dyslexia and still battled through no matter what.
Also, I'm really not trying to take it for granted. First in the family to go to uni, wouldn't mind inspiring my brother to do well even if not in uni etc.

good on you, gosh now I feel bad for grumbling
dont let my griping get you down
It's fine, a lot of people I meet have parents with masters or PhDs and I'm like 'this is the path your parents have forced you down' My parents are always a bit hands off and they never really said what I should do just I should try hard. ...
And really I'm quite proud of how far I've come. Based on my shitty experience in primary school and the less-that-perfect secondary schooling (it was still a good school don't get me wrong) Just that I've got a ways to go still now
