You should read something set outside marvel/dc, so much of non-bigco comics is just making fun of their tropes
-
a lot of nonbigco comix are non-superhero based stuff that's actually interesting and fun -- a welcome change from the 90s when it was 'cape books' or 'physically and spiritually ugly autobiographical 900 page wankfests'
-
oh yeah--! don't misunderstand, I love me some comics, I just never got into the really mainline stuff I guess? like if theres a movie of it i probably didnt read it i guess sandman was in one of those worlds, i liked sandman until my ex convinced me it was actually mediocre
-
your ex committed an infohazard crime towards you
-
and now I have done it to you :imsorry:
-
nah you have not convinced me it was mediocre

Comic books are suppose to function as escapism & the ones that resonated the strongest were allegories for the modern world; ie Spiderman & Hulk (radiation), Lex Luthor (evil tycoon)...etc etc etc. This just strikes me as beating you over the head with the message. Signaling.

the subtext is rapidly becoming the text

comics are ridiculous and that's what's great about them imo people whose entry point into comics are the movies often have no idea just how ridiculous and absurd comics can get there is nothing unbelievable in a comic book setting; it's like child-play-thought-experiments
-
https://screenrant.com/most-wtf-moments-in-superhero-comics/ … - stark gets domestically abused by his armor - the joker eats China - lois lane brainwashes a baby into marrying her - squirrel girl defeats thanos tbh even this list is underwhelming, things get much ridiculouser
-
Ok I ship it :D

robot friend please read The Killing Joke
-
oh yeah thats true but she wasnt even really a cape at that point you know (right?)
-
I've been seeing so many signs to reread Worm lately but a superhero outside of the Worm universe being called a cape? This is the one that's gonna make me jump the shark rip my time.
-
i never finished worm which i very much regret b/c it's really good but really long
-
Worm is fantastic. The sequel...not so much.
-
I'd rec finishing if you get the chance—the entire book only takes about two weeks of casual reading.
-
i got really far, was at the part with the slaughterhouse 9 clones. it's just such a massive commitment
