I think this is definitely a big part of it. Intriguingly, Haidt says that what he was called liberals have less of a sense of the sacred/impure axis of morality. Perhaps the current center-left implosion (and coinciding upswing in "Abortion is good" rhetoric) indicates a shift.

(According to his way of thinking, this would be a shift to the immediate pragmatic benefit of the right. In other words, by capitalizing on this axis, they are able to reach and incense people heretofore immune to their perspective. In other words -- it helps them own the cons)
