it also raises the question of what ethical externalities arising from voluntary acts are acceptable or unacceptable we're not okay with pollution because it harms us, termination doesn't kill anyone having the conversation

But we also live in a society that resists bodily autonomy in general. Getting your tubes ligated is unacceptable in a way abortion isn't. That's our revealed preference. We don't want to let people control their bodies and maybe fuck them up, so we damn more souls either way.

Far fewer people believe tubal ligation is an ethical problem than do abortion, let alone murder. You're focusing on the ethical domain you care about (bodily autonomy) and setting yourself up to be unable to communicate productively with outgroup on it.

1) Part of my argument here is that actions don't match the stated preferences, which is going to be antagonistic either way, because it's an accusation of inauthenticity. 2) I didn't think I was arguing with a pro-lifer so I didn't go in on the assumption of engaging with one.

I think generally regardless of whom you're speaking with (eigen on bodily autonomy, or others on different topics), art is best.

Thanks pals ^^ I think this is pretty helpful--the body horror explanation is not something that I have heretofore personally experienced or identified with but it makes a lot of sense that this would drive passion on the prochoice side. Point to the first hypothesis.
