Only about half of workers join the union even in states where they have to pay dues in order to work for the government whether they join the union or not. That tells you almost everything you need to know about how well these orgs are doing for their members.

The other important thing to realize is that public sector unions are negotiating against taxpayers, not bosses. In the case of police and teachers, they exist to fight attempts at transparency, accountability, and reform.
