the key test, I think, would be how they react to natsec powers: an apolitically conservative court would shut that shit down, demand congressional approval for wars, etc. A Conservative court would probably continue the current trend of not questioning executive branch power.

This very reason is why I don't hate Gorsuch, some of the decisions and dissents I've read from him have been very "actually conservative" WRT police specifically, which is at least a start
