That's the idea! But you know there have been eras where they get a bit ahead of the curve, and I'd prefer the political branches to be the real risk-takers or innovators, as you like

So kind of like the House of Lords in the UK? Like, kind of reserved, don't rock the boat too much, willing to let stuff slide but broadly about 10 years behind the times? All this is while appreciating when the youngsters are ready to make changes and letting them?

I think so! I'm not super-familiar with the operation of Lords, so I'm not able to go deep here. Casually speaking that's how things seem to operate best in practice. Just one more check on mmmm let's say excesses of the zeitgeist.
