story time spent the weekend in jail once after being accused of a crime I didn't commit naturally had a seven foot tall lawyer retained by the time of my arraignment, so while the other poor souls were scrambling to match with public defenders I had a moment to observe things

thing was, alleged undocumented detainees didn't even get to a defender they got separated out and led down a dark corridor en masse in cuffs whole building was a Nightmare edifice but that hallway was especially spooky lasciate ogne speranza vibe

someone whispered they were being taken to ICE first time I had heard the acronym fellas these are Dark Feds and I pray for their expunging from the body politic even more than the run of the mill cops

Trying to figure out if I have to hold this norm even for people who literally keep databases of people they monitor and arrest
-
Like FBI Agents that hunt serial killers for instance?
-
If not, then the norm depends on whether you agree that someone should be monitored and arrested.
-
I think tentatively the right frame to use is something like the Transparent Society take ie maybe a state panopticon is inevitable over time, and maybe the best we can do is to make it symmetrical? This is interacting with my extreme dislike of Feds, my bias is out of control
