Imagine if the Vatican said that institutions have an ethical duty to make science more Christian. This is no different. Zero difference. None.https://twitter.com/nature/status/1006740460361142272 …

Studies show that in tech diverse teams consistently being better results. There are more ideas and they'e more diverse because of our different backgrounds. Individual biases cancel out. It's not unreasonable to expect the same in science, so a call for diversity seems ok to me.

Diversity of ideas is often a good thing, esp. in tech development. Any other form of diversity is irrelevant and should not in any way be striven for because it is usually counterproductive. Just select the best people for the job.

Diversity in backgrounds is correlated to diversity of ideas. Nothing controversial about it. Put together a team of very similar people and it will tend to come up with similar ideas every time. Add people of different cultures & experiences, and you'll get different results.

Cite a study that says group differences are greater than differences on the individual level and I'll show you a study that justifies racism.
