Yes this is true. It is really important to maintain a life/work balance. I did a year long crunch a decade ago and have never regained my “peak performance,” or a sensible “balance.” Hard to explain.

I can highly recommend NOT coding for 24 hours at a time, sleeping for 8 hours, coding for 24, sleeping for 8, etc, for months at a time. While I managed to get a shitload done, it is not healthy. Your short term memories don’t get transferred properly into long term memory...

yeah I'm trying to pinpoint my original burnout it may have been undergraduate or it may have been high school, but certainly by the time I quit my phd program ive felt broken for a while tbqh used to be a champion but now man hard to keep even a 9-5 going

next time I change jobs probably going to spend a month in a small room with the curtains drawn immobile staring at the ceiling and sleeping 20 hours daily
