It is certainly the case that Kim Jong Un is evil or at the very least heinously amoral. This does not mean it’s not good for the world and his people to negotiate with him. Even monsters can respond to incentives.

True. Do you expect this *particular* negotiation to be a net-positive, though?

It’ll probably wind up with the world looking about the same, but a lot of people are saying trump is evil for ‘legitimating’ KJU. The attempt is worthwhile.

Oddly enough, one of the biggest upsides to the Trump presidency so far for me is that he's helped *delegitimize* the presidency.

I used to think that but now I'm less-sure If the internal response to Trump were power re-grabs by competing institutions (states, Congress especially) and reimplementation of formal checks I think it would be fantastic, but I don't see them doing this right now :/

I used to think that but now I'm not so sure Endgame of eroded state institutions maybe end up looking a lot more like revolutionary France or Russia and a lot less like idk the American West Maybe you only get nice Libertarian societies starting from scratch?

I hear you, and I think that's a valid and good and noble preference and I'm really doubtful you're going to get to that end by eroding state institutions generally compare once more Russia

If you want to preserve stuff, build voluntary alternatives to State functions. Pretend you're a western Roman citizen in 500 AD and plan accordingly.
