It is certainly the case that Kim Jong Un is evil or at the very least heinously amoral. This does not mean it’s not good for the world and his people to negotiate with him. Even monsters can respond to incentives.

I used to think that but now I'm not so sure Endgame of eroded state institutions maybe end up looking a lot more like revolutionary France or Russia and a lot less like idk the American West Maybe you only get nice Libertarian societies starting from scratch?

If you want to preserve stuff, build voluntary alternatives to State functions. Pretend you're a western Roman citizen in 500 AD and plan accordingly.
