It's not even supercomputers. There's a ton of valuable equipment that gets horded in closets because PI's are territorial and don't want anyone touch "their" stuff. It's maddening.

TruStori: My roommate ran a complex data analysis on some experimental data of ours and because he had Nice privs (Comp Center admin was a physics professor) it slowed down low priority processes on the VAX. He got a dozen messages telling him to stop slowing down Relay.

I assume those were just the people who could figure out how to see who was using all the CPU time.
