I am not a vegetarian and I'm not sure they're ethically correct but I have a lot of contempt for people who go out of their way to express contempt for vegetarians and more generally for the class of people who respond to shame at virtue in others with abuse

What's your ethical view on it? I didn't become one because of ethics but logically I think they're sound. Animals are pretty universally considered sentient, and it does seem a *little* messed up to kill them when there are alternatives.

it's murky I guess you get to trading off quantity and quality of animal lives pretty quickly and there are creepy-ass margins too--engineer animals to enjoy caging and slaughter? urk I'm not sure humans are sufficiently close to god to handle this kind of moral responsibility

I think there's a case to be made for reengineering ecosystems to reduce wild animal suffering as soon as it's feasible tbqh

Reengineering, as in, given a more or less un-human-affected system, you would like to intervene and modify it so fewer "wild animals" suffered and/or died?

You do realize that's even more utterly bonkers than modifying consumption preferences, right? You actually think you can craft in situ a version of the Pacific Northwest where timber wolves can thrive with less deer pain? And that trying will bear positive results?

It's not currently feasible :D But it's a noble aim We're nigh gods and we should conduct ourselves accordingly
