Basically, the apparatus was not well designed. Sometimes the skull cap just fell off, leaving a bird hopping around unattended with an exposed brain. Sometimes the pneumatic tube would come out, leaving an unattended bird with a sucking chest wound.

yeah I mean I am miserable remembering but mostly I feel bad for the birds, you know? I dont know enough about factory farming to have a strong opinion--wife's view is that they're often more humane than alternatives--but I think people consume meat more directly than research,

I feel for you. This type of research is so often bullshit. And it's hard to be certain while you're in the midst of it.--especially at a junior level You might suspect. But still, you're lucky to have research. Then later you find out, and as you say: Home. Drink.
