for one thing people are maybe more likely to deal with distant abstract national issues in far mode everything gets to be about Principle's and Value's rather than "if we dont get this practicality right we will be poor and our kids will be even dumber and maybe we die or w/e"

people sort of know about their city, and they sure have a better idea of what their city is like than they do Every city, and certainly more than they do about Russia relatedly: there's much more Skin in the Game in local politics, rather than plundering far-off outgroup cities

finally with an emphasis on national politics people probably do spend less time getting to know and being able to work with their neighbors, and perhaps practicing useful Get Along With These Assholes Because We Live Near Them skills

instead, people in California get to hate people in Texas and they fixate on stupid differences and theyll never have to actually interact with those people and deal with the fact that theyre being real shitheels sometimes no incentive to live and let live idk, its sad i guess

Local news is an even bigged dumpster fire
-
yeah but its OUR dumpster fire if that makes sense the quality of the content isnt so important people are really stupid no matter what rather thinking locally seems politically healthful because its all concrete
-
Sure but local news im thinking tv is a horrible way to get involvedor informed. Bunch of bootlicking assholes. Then again most of my neighbors are too. Shrug
-
I think the cost of being jack-booty is higher when you're demanding people oppress your next door neighboors than it is when you want the Feds to kill Texans or Yemeni or w/e Youve gotta own the results of that wickedness There was a lot about this inhttps://www.amazon.com/Collapse-American-Criminal-Justice/dp/0674051750 …

once cops stopped living in the neighborhoods they policed, they got brutal fast, is the narrative there not a perfect transfer to politics generally but I think there's something there

There was recently a piece somewhere about how a lot of local news outlets are owned by a conglomerate that uses them to promote their conservative agenda.
