I am genuinely puzzled by how to reconcile the warm endorsement the sentiment in this tweet received, with e.g.
@cliodiaspora ‘s claims that Germaine Greer is not feminist because she doesn’t support xyz policy. I’m sure Germaine Greer doesn’t think all women are NPCs.2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at, possibly because I'm not any kind of Movement Feminist and I don't know who those people are although also quite possibly because I'm extremely stoned

@cliodiaspora stated that Greer couldn’t claim to be a feminist because Greer - favoured lighter sentences for rapists, - said that most rape was not violent, just lazy careless and insensitive - opposed tran rights2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

possibly a steelman is: P1. Feminism is believing there exist women who are not NPCs P2. Believing there exist women who are not NPCs necessarily implies beliefs X Y Z P3. Greer does not believe X Y Z P2 + P3 -> Greer does not believe "women . . . NPCs" -> not a feminist by P1

P2 is the usually tacit and maybe under-examined crux of the disagreement if you want to be charitable to your interlocutor I think

Super helpful and very interesting. Thank you for this. Yes, P2 is key. I’ve seen faint echoes of P2 in arguments in this area. But not so many explicit debates about it. The argument quickly jumps to debating the merits of xyz then back again.
