no opinion about the original post, however i think its true that theres way too much "splitting" and not enough "lumping" In gender and sex these days https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumpers_and_splitters … what's the problem with this? a few things, both practical and theoretical https://twitter.com/GodDoesnt/status/1003993476890054656 …

I still don't know what a 'demi' is other than 'what we used to call a romantic' and tbh i'm not gonna police ppl's identities but it does not seem like a super useful one to me
-
demisexuality is a way of pretending that the single most praised and rewarded sexual behavior pattern in our culture is oppressed because Chad and Stacy like casual hookups
-
to be fair, demisexuality makes sense as a dialectical move (read: countersignal) if you're looking at young-urban-liberal areas. consider that much praise for monogamy inherits from Christian social norms, which are flailing esp in cities...
-
what I don't really understand is the appeal in continuing to promote it, when it's so unsustainable and everyone likes orgasms and novel partners.
-
I only like one of those things regularly novel partners are a fucking nightmare in most circumstances
-
idk what to tell you but strong disagree
-
I'm with Palecur on this one. Screening novel partners is a fuss, but 1) it is to a great degree third-world shithole inside football methinks and 2) it's a skill and a process. You get better at it.

consider that these identities existing at all helps people in exploring possibilities beyond the median at all. only once they have reached that stage, refining or getting rid of them makes sense.
-
this is a v good point name the thing but don't cleave to it? but maybe this is hard people love their identities
-
I'm thinking with progressing dilution of norms abandoning broader identities will come by itself. But before you can deconstruct, you need to reconstruct things. Otherwise you will maintain the same structures you seek to abolish but simply lose your ability to talk about them.

these people want a more legible sexual identity because they want to be seen by the state
-
notice me senpai; being seen by state as political variant of exhibitionist fetish
