Sex work is illegal. As such, information about it doesn’t show up in standard labor market surveys like CPS. Add to that natural repugnance and the success of abolitionist campaigns to conflate sex work with coercion and you have a lot of simple unknowns. Like what is coercion?https://twitter.com/pacesociety/status/1002200344217108485 …

How common is it? What does the supply curve consist of and corresponding frequencies? To get basic science requires going beyond convenience sample, and honestly, despite its value, ethnography too. It is possible to sample a difficult to reach groups under strong sampling

assumptions like respondent driven sampling. But that may be the way to go. That just requires funding as its expensive. And while trafficking research has no shortage of funding, basic sex work research seems less funded in my experience. But I suppose I see basic measurement

I'm still sitting on a huge trove of Internet-derived market data from 2013-2016, and I'm willing to share relevant portions with someone doing this sort of work. It might be a helpful ancillary data source for population estimation, though probably less so post-FOSTA.

Could you DM me? I use a lot of internet derived data. I unfortunately think going forward that only will be valuable for a narrowly defined project using proxies. For post FOSTA, it may be less useful. Same with my data.
