    Possible answers: 1. Flu mostly affects old ppl, who don't contribute to productivity 2. Flu shots don't work that well, so ppl would rebel against mandatory vax 3. Flu shots have low margins, so Big Pharma hasn't lobbied for a mandate

    Why aren't flu shots mandatory, given that ~50,000 Americans die from it each year? How much productivity is lost due to ppl taking sick days? (or is it good for GDP because we sell more tylenol and give hospital workers something to do?) just curious

    Okay I called up a virology professor and asked. he said recovery/death is not a good measure of fatality rate bc many patients are still under observation and recovery isn't well defined. Many patients who "recover" will suffer later complications like pulmonary fibrosis.

    That question has a pretty nuanced answer. I’m far from the best person to ask. But regarding case fatality rate, a reasonable estimate would be # dead/(# dead + # recovered). I see 132 dead and 110 recovered.

    Taxes don't fund wars!! The Federal Reserve *creates* funding by selling t-bills for dollars. The t-bills are held by central banks in China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, all our trade partners. If other countries stop HODLing t-bills, there's no funding for war.

    Money isn't a medium of exchange. It's a tool for advancing foreign policy and other political objectives. Boycott Fiat.

    The "Know Your Customer" meme is pure monetary ignorance. One of the main reasons for the existence of money-as-MoE is so that businesses can scale *beyond* the need to know their customers. When you "know your customer" you don't need money at all, you can just exchange favours!

    Question for law-abiding crypto twitter: When you use Lightning, are capital gains accrued at the time of channel open? or channel close? Or do you compute capital gains tax based on each Lightning payment?

    by paying with long-term-held bitcoin (and replacing what you paid), you reset the long term capital gains clock. so whatever the discount rate for 1 year of Bitcoin exposure is.

    Merchants who accept bitcoin need to offer a substantial discount if they expect anyone to choose that payment option.

    because bitcoin payments are worth more. Buyer pays tx fees instead of you. Also, near-instant settlement finality vs 30+day processor hold before funds released. Bitcoin could go to the moon during that time.

    Sanctions are weapons of war designed to kill civilians through starvation. Teaching DPRK citizens how to evade sanctions is tantamount to teaching them "duck and cover" drills, or how to build a bomb shelter.

    Remember: Madeleine Albright thought the slaughter of half million children through on Iraq was “worth it” There is no such thing as “well-meaning sanctions”, all sanctions are designed to target civilians, to target children, to target the sick etc.
