I'm super excited to announce I'm joining to work on the Flux Language team. The team is fantastic and it's a rare kind of professional opportunity to work on a language. This job search turned out well for me!

Starting this decade working on two projects I was working on at the beginning of the last decade. It's all the other stuff in my life that has changed (for the better).

The fact that git checkout is used to change branches while preserving local changes AND to nuke local changes has always been very uncomfortable for me. Great move.

Release management question: if a package contains two related but separate programs, each with distinct version history, what version history should the containing package use? A separate number, or adopt the version of the more important of the two?

I'm only through lexical structure and just getting into the context-free grammar, but so far, I'd say the people have done a great job defining the language.

So I guess the idea with using blockchain is distributed consensus on the history and order of public comments.

There are so many great people who have worked on this problem. You could easily fill 500 positions.

But if Twitter chases this goal. Well, problem solved. The others will be forced to follow, eventually.

I used to work on this problem. 2006 until shortly after the death of Iliya Zhitomirskiy in 2011. I recognized I was becoming obsessed with solving an impossible problem. It was painful to quit, but it was impossible to compete with the big centralized social networks.

Has anyone on github ever (slowly) written messages or drawn things with their contribution calendar?

I see what they are saying now. Really the text should read "To allow semicolon-free statements to occupy a single line ..."

[Colm Language] How handle omitted semis in a grammar for Go:

And then under semicolons: "To allow complex statements to occupy a single line, a semicolon may be omitted before a closing ')' or '}'." You shouldn't need to omit semis to pack things on a line. What am I missing? Having a hard time believing I'm finding errors so quickly.

Some things I don't understand in the Golang specification ... "The grammar is compact and regular ..." Surely it isn't regular in a grammar sense. This is confusing.

If Colm is going to get noticed by anybody it needs to have a bangin' set of grammars. I'm currently working on rust. But what to do next? Go?
