Moral philosophy is so frustrating because it combines the power of logic with the uncertainty of highly contentious premises. It's as if you could fly but were never sure which way was up.

I'm sure it made a lot of financial sense for Routledge to choose some stock cover art for their edited collections. But I keep seeing pictures of books on here and I'm like "Oo, I'm in that collecti... wait, nope, def don't know anything about animal husbandry in 18th C Russia."

We are looking to feature alternative career paths with a biology degree for a student panel . Who here has pursued a career informed by your science degree who did not go to med school or grad school? What does your daily work life look like and how did you get there?

I know fantasy involves imaginary elements, but c’mon! This is just ridiculous.

Co-sign. I was admitted to one PhD program off the deep waitlist. I’m currently tenured at the only faculty job I’ve ever been offered. It only takes one.

I first read this a decade ago: still the whackiest philosophy example I've ever seen.

"Suppose we freeze a bunch of camels' corpses, and arrange them for art's sake in a sort of flying wedge, hurtling toward Alpha Centauri; could the advantageous arrangement supply, for the whole, what the individuals lost with death?" - Michael Thompson, *Life and Action*

👇. One of the most frustrating things about popular discussion of cultural appropriation is that it tends to END with appeals to group membership; but that’s where discussion should START.

Lots of great questions at the end of Michael’s piece here. This is another great example of where archaeology and philosophy can come together: there’s lots of great philosophical work on the wishes of the dead, posthumous harm, etc.
