    The US has among the lowest rates of refugees in the world, well below other developed countries. And this data was for 2015 when the refugee cap was 70,000/yr. As of today, for 2021 it's just 15,000yr.

    One final chart to clarify what I meant about cases taking years to finish. This was the percent of cases still pending halfway through FY2020—when this data was generated—by year of entry. FY13 - 16% FY14 - 18% FY15 - 21% FY16 - 36% FY17 - 52% FY18 - 70% FY19 - 93% FY20 - 99%

    If you look at only the outcomes of cases which have reached a conclusion (excluding pending cases), you can see that by far the most common outcome for a Central American unaccompanied child is winning their case. But because the system is slow, that can take years to happen.

    You hear a lot about children at the border, but less about what happens next. Thanks to data provided by the DHS Office of Immigration Statistics, here's a basic fact you should all know. Since 2012, more Central American unaccompanied children have won their cases than lost!
