I cannot believe that today of all days I had to call roadside assistance for a flat tire because I didn't have a jack in my trunk. I could practically hear his disappointment at my lack of preparation.

We know Trump’s ads tonight were full of nothing but lies and broken promises. We also know that we can defeat him. We’re going to come together and work every day to send a Democrat to the White House. Add your name if you’re with us:

Anyway. I miss and love my dad, and please vote in November. 💙

I work hard every day so that families facing these difficult choices can simply do what is right for them. That should be the only consideration. It's already hard enough.

Because that’s all it is — luck. My mom wasn’t more deserving of that security than any other spouse. My brother and I didn’t do anything special to earn the ability to not have to finically contribute to my dad’s care. It was the luck of the draw.

This is why I came to work for , and why I’m extremely grateful to do what I do. I know that by electing Democrats at scale, we’ll protect and expand health care access to help families like mine — and those that aren’t as lucky.

I cannot imagine having to make these care decisions and choices while balancing them with financial insecurity. Families facing these horrific choices need to be able to make them because it’s what is best for their loved ones, not because of desperation.

The years my dad was sick and the months he was in the hospital were some of the most difficult and excruciating of my life. He was my favorite person, and he didn’t deserve any of what happened to him.

Being able to make these decisions without the weight of medical bankruptcy was a blessing. I was already being crushed by the weight of losing my dad. But we weren’t more deserving of this than families who don’t have generous office jobs. We were just lucky.

We were able to do all of this because my mom has a good job, with a generous salary, and excellent health insurance that covered catastrophic illness.

And when it became clear it was the end and we made the excruciating decision to transition him to palliative care, we did so in a wonderful facility surrounded by caring, professional people.

My mom was able to install a chair lift on the stairs so she didn’t have to move. She renovated the master bathroom to make the shower bigger and add a shower seat. He had therapists and appointments and trips to hospital and mom’s work could be scheduled around it.

My dad had a rare neurological disease that causes issues with speech, balance, and swallowing. As the disease progressed, my dad needed more and more care. Luckily, my mom could work from home. So could my brother. They spent most of my dad’s final years caring for him together.
