One thing I’ve noticed about Mandarin is Americans really hit the tones hard, whereas we Africans speak it in our native accent.

Mandarin relies pretty heavily on pitch, so it's important to be clear. Also, fun fact, more Chinese people have perfect pitch than westerners, in part because of the reliance of pitch in their language!

I'm interested to see her speak more. This is an amazingly important skill to have as President. As someone who learned many languages and mastered none, I fear she has done the same. It would be great to see her language skills further. Keep us posted on this!

Yes, it is. Julian Castro speaks Japanese, Spanish in addition of course to English. Pete Buttigieg speaks like 9 different languages. I believe Kamala Harris also speaks more than just English; dont know specifics there.

Hate to say it.. but Pete Buttigieg keeps looking better and better in my book. I feel biased as a fellow gay white male. But.. language acquisition says a great deal about a person's intellectual capacity and ability to learn in the moment.

Pete only speaks a few phrases - several times I've seen him do the basics then beg off coz he doesnt know any more. By that criteria I can speak at least 8 languages including Tagalog & Sanskrit. I;m more interested in policies & character - Pete is not shaping up well in either

Yes, I am still waiting to read the policy specifics from Pete, once he declares. Platform and goal-posts relative to the broad DemPartyPlatform are very important this cycle, from all candidates. We are reading, watching, sensing closely.

Yeah. I was impressed when I first came across him but every time he opens his mouth he loses me more. Also not impressed with info about him kicking poor people out of their homes to develop land. NOt written him off but close. Wait & see with him
