Happy Egg Weekend. I've put the Wiz source code on Github: Wiz is a high-level assembly language that supports 6502, 65C02, HuC6280, Z80, GB, 65816, SPC700. Example programs are included. Compiled binaries and better documentation soon! MIT license.

Elon Musk's ex starts dating a trans woman, four weeks later Musk is buying Twitter and planning to roll back their policies prohibiting hate speech against trans people. And we're supposed to pretend this is about free speech and not this guy's ego.

The precedent publishers are setting with games by expiring an existing/original version to make way for an update is concerning.

Nintendo contract employees are treated like a subclass. No benefits, no paid time off, no access to events, parties, gym--NOA should convert as many of these positions to full time as possible. There's no reason anyone should be on contract for 5, 10 years (which is common).

The real alarming thing about Elon Musk buying this place is not any bullshit about free speech or user experience but rather the fact that the Billionaire Toy Purchase budget has now reached $44 billion, which has some very scary implications

Also really want to avoid upstream dependencies/minimal annoyances w/things like package managers, this breaks way too much existing stuff. Just have a monolithic version-controlled repository of all bundled dependencies in one place, with some ignored config files.

This probably wouldn't scale to a huge site, but maybe a small blog/CMS or community of a few people. Probably something like this has been done, haven't really followed web stuff in a while.

Static sites are an alternative to the vulnerabilities of dynamic sites but not totally great either. Been thinking of something that has dynamic content, but also constantly generates an offline/static version of public content as it runs, so less likely to have total data loss.

At the time, I kind of gave up because everything at the time that was open-source and free that was widely used was in PHP, and PHP was the main thing on shared webhosting. All other languages would require writing your own server / configuring a ton of extra junk.

For a time in the mid-00s I used off-the-shelf things like WordPress, MediaWiki, phpBB, whicre h anot great, but as long as you updated it was usually "ok". Eventually around the 2010s, botnets had a huge uptick and could scan sites for common software and find vulnerabilities

It was largely for the convenience. but a lot of friends I could stay in contact with over IRC and forums for years, places like Twitter slowly absorbed those. Then Discord and Slack came out and sort of engulfed what remained.

Thinking of what a shift off of social media could look like, and want to give it a go. I made whole websites in high school with my own hand-written blog/forums, for myself and for friends, then later self-hosted sites throughout uni. Wasn't really till the past decade I stopped

people aren't gonna like it but if you want a return to decent communities that were somewhat solid you need to go back to shit like public forums. you aren't gonna get a constant feed of vapid takes or shitty phone apps for it though

Since there’s a lot of new people trying out Mastodon, something to be cautious about: your DMs can be read by admins of your instance and the recipient’s, and when your posts cross an instance boundary, it’s possible for your private posts to get reblogged.
