This sounds like a case where @StevenLevy wrote the article, and someone else at @WIRED wrote the headline. The article doesn't talk about clueless nerds at all.
I see what you're saying, and appreciate the reply. The headline does take it farther. But "that same obliviousness" is a similar point. And I think Levy is far enough along in his career that he's not obliged to write under headlines he thinks misrepresent his work.
