i'm so frustrated. i just found out why my 720p renders looks blurry as fuck. avc codec. channels with higher view-counts get a codec called vp9 which is significantly clearer at 720p and 1080p. @TeamYouTube is there any way to manually enable vp9?
they probably plan to make vp9 used everywhere eventually. it isnt backwards since high resolution videos are going to require higher bitrates to look good but still be compressed. most 720p videos are going to look like shit anyways so why not just ultra compress them?

the fidelity of 720p video isnt good enough to make switching to vp9 worth it. 1440p video is much larger and has the potential to look alot better than 720p. even if people are abusing the "1440p vp9" way youtube works, its not enough for youtube to care.
