I’m still struggling with the conclusion, burnout being labelled as a “chronic disease” with no real solution or fix to overcome it. I’m also not convinced this is a new thing that hasn’t been experienced by previous generations in a different form….

Previous generations have had their own woes, but the 24/7 availability culture is something the current generation is struggling with and is here to stay, thus 'chronic'. Now that we've established the problem and called it by name, so now it's time to make steps to fix it.

I have been thinking about it all day. Permission to stop optimizing all the time, or feeling like a failure for not even trying to anymore. That would be a revelation.

Agreed. I came from poor background and we were all supposed to go to college and work hard and succeed. I have worked mass amounts of overtime in my life. And I ain’t millennial by far. Great article, but maybe it’s more about capitalism and corporate greed than one generation.

To those saying this is every generation, I hear you, but as a college professor I can say the stress that hangs over students getting into college and during college is strikingly different to my experience of both. Learning is secondary, what matters is "success". Its toxic.
