I have come to the conclusion that I really enjoy not practicing talks, and I enjoy writing slides same day or day before. I give a better talk that way! We all have our own styles.

Bugs me when folks who practice for tons of hours shame others who don’t or start requiring it or say I’m wasting attendees time for not practicing. Silly shaming— people like my talks and I like giving them this way and humans are different. Accept it. Chill.

You could say that you have been practicing your approach and process of giving more impromptu talks. Personally I much prefer a natural presentation style that’s lucid, free and flowing - which is very hard to achieve with a script (unless you’re a natural or trained actor).

Absolutely. It took me years to realise I could even begin to get away with it... I think the main thing is you have to talk a lot (ideally with a friendly audience) to learn what works for you.
