Similarly, this week I'd rather be working on a grant and hacking on Idris 2. But when @UniversitiesUK take us for granted, we have to fight.https://twitter.com/millerdl/status/968167172836077569 …

(It occurs to me that I haven't explicitly said I'm hacking on an attempt at Idris 2 before now, although it may have been obvious to some... Except of course that I'm not, right now.)

My brain isn't very good at switching off, apparently. Can anyone recommend a book I should have read but haven't? Been reading Pratchett, Gaiman, Stross, lately. So like that but by someone else...

Have you read any of Ann Leckie's books? The Imperial Radch books (starting with Ancillary Justice) and most recently "Provenance" set in the same universe.

+1 for Ancillary Justice. Any of Pratchett’s Discworld books or the awesome
#stormlightArchive by Sanderson will help wile away those insomniac hours.2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

Ooh! Discworld! The Moist von Lipwig books (Going Postal, Making Money, and Raising Steam) are particular masterpieces.

I've been trying out audiobooks lately on my commute and really enjoying the later Discworld. With some exceptions I stopped around 2001 or so and have clearly missed out.

If you want audibook recommendations, I'll point you at

Re: audiobooks, I know you already mentioned reading Gaiman, but his audiobooks are especially enjoyable. Even better if read by him. I've also enjoyed all of Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space series, read by the awesome John Lee.

I've recently listened to Neverwhere, which was great. I really like the way he reads them.

That's one of my particular favorites.

Incidentally, I *loved* the Claire Danes reading of The Handmaid's Tale. I hadn't read the book in a decade+ and used it on a recent road trip.
