A Lisper yesterday asked me how free form exploration & debugging work in a strongly typed lang. I was forced to admit they're non-existent.

Huh? Scala, Haskell, and Idris have lovely REPL support and support partial programs.

Idk about Idris, but certainly the REPL in Haskell is quite crippled compared to a Lispers.

Different workflow != crippled. Idris can do some truly amazing things that you can't even dream of in Lisp.

Crippled was the wrong word. My main point is that types require a very different workflow & not many realize that when advocating.

mostly people tell me Lisp already does that. But we have a lot to (re)learn and there is much fun still to be had.
