@missingfaktor @raichoo @czaplic ... but you need to know about the "Monad" type class to understand how 'do' desugaring works

@pelotom @missingfaktor @raichoo No, you don't. It's perfectly fine to consider 'monomorphic' instantiations of bind and return.

@larsr_h @missingfaktor @raichoo if you do that, they'll wonder why they can't use do-notation even though they provided those functions :p

@pelotom There's a long way until new learners provide their own functions :-)

@larsr_h are you trying to avoid going into the complexity of type classes, "laws", or scary names?

@pelotom No, we taught simple type classes early on and then introduced IO without mentioning monads.

@larsr_h I mean, which form of complexity or scariness are you trying to avoid with this technique?

@pelotom @larsr_h I do something similar. It's not about avoiding complexity or scariness, just about ordering concepts in a helpful way.

@edwinbrady @larsr_h I think I understand... start by teaching a simplified model and gradually enrich it with the full truth

@pelotom @larsr_h Ys, and by using the right examples, you can lead to "ooh, these look a bit similar, I wonder if there's an abstraction?"
