Why on earth is it not standard practice to include in an obvious location in your paper the date when it was written??
@ffee_machine Because the form of the final thing is decreed by the publisher... sure, the whole thing is rather outdated.

@edwinbrady Well, I mean, in the final thing often you'll see the name and date/vol# of the journal in the footer area I guess -
