Oh dear, I looked on /r/programming and learned that 76 seconds is a really long time for a compiler to build itself, and that I should write posts with them in mind... well that's me told!

Yes, it helps a bit, but it doesn't tell you where calls came from or say how long is spent in each function. The racket profiler is a bit more enlightening.

They're right though, 76s is really slow! Just look at clang++, which on my 192GB RAM machine with >32 cores takes... *looks at notes* ...over 45 minutes to build...

Some day I'm going to look at clang and see if I can work out what on earth it's doing in all those lines of code... to be fair, I let something else do the work of code generation, but that something else bootstraps in about a minute!
