I was reading about make headers earlier https://fossil-scm.org/fossil/doc/trunk/src/makeheaders.html … which has a good rant about the C compilation model … I am trying to debug re2c which is written in C++ … who had the bright idea of putting code in header files?

IIRC version -1 or thereabouts had something like it to save repeating library code. But thankfully it hasn't been necessary for a very long time.
