I made some lovely guis with VB6. Now I only do command line interfaces as the alternative is.... Electron?

Hear hear! I think VB4 was the last time I wrote a GUI app, everything since VB has required far too much effort for, judging by what other people have produced, less reward.

I am astonished that no one has ever produced a GUI builder as good as VB for the Mac.

On Windows/Linux, https://www.lazarus-ide.org/ provides a similar GUI development experience to Delphi/VB6

It also works on Mac, but it’s less stable and the cocoa version is hard to get.

With frp, it's absolutely easier to write gui's with fp.

However lovely it is (and it is), it's not as easy as VB was to get started. There is value in getting close to that again

To me this was the golden age of desktop software. Normal people could build and share useful and nice-looking applications without ever using the command line. The industry took a weird leap sideways at some point.
