In the 15 years I've lived in Scotland I've never experienced rain like in Nice tonight. I'll remind the WG of this next time they reject St Andrews as a host because of the weather. Actually I think I'll remind them in my talk tomorrow...

Southern Europe has most of the rain of the year concentrated in the Autumn/Winter. And thunderstorms are very common.

And people ask me how I cope with the rain! Badly, it turns out... I like the dry climate where I live better.

I remember geography teacher mentioning that St Andrews and Rome have the same amount of annual precipitation (though IIRC St Andrews has way more days with precipitation).

This is true. But that just means that if it's raining it's about to stop! Whereas here... We're just going to get very wet.
