Got a family related trip to St Andrews coming up. Our third. Will this be the one where I succumb to the delights of the pie vending machine?https://www.flickr.com/photos/bods/24569387957/in/album-72157660798963930/ …

Curiously St Andrews was one of universities I applied for (along with York, Manchester, UMIST, Durham and Leeds). But I didn't go to visit because I decided it was too far away.

I had it in my head at the time that I was going to stay in Manchester. That I would save money by staying at home. So I only bothered to go and visit the universities that were easy to visit. St Andrews got left off my visit list.

Not quite at the last minute - but close - I decided to go to Durham. I don't really know why. Almost a whim really. And it's always strange to think how different my life may have been if I had not gone there.

You don't know, but I suspect I would still have done similar jobs to what I do now. It wouldn't have mattered what university I went to. I would still have been crap at Maths. But my interest in building websites would no doubt have still happened during the late 1990s.

I may even have still ended up in London afterwards. Who knows. But my personal life would no doubt have been very different. We may have grown up a few miles from each other, but it was during our time at Durham that Catherine and myself got to know each other.

Anyway, what happened happened. And now part of Catherine's family lives in St Andrews by strange coincidence. And there is a pie vending machine. And one day I will try it.

Ooh, let me know if you have time for a coffee or something while you're around! I'm still scared of the vending machine. I'm told it's quite good though.

I have used a chip vending machine so feel I need to try it! No idea what our plans are going to be yet. But will let you know!

The one I used was at Cambridge railway station. Very hot chips.
