The first PhD I examined was @laurence_e_day's, and after 3 hours he said "is that really all?" because he thought it'd been at most an hour... Nope. We're knackered now.

After my viva I said to the examiner that I thought he’d given me a rather easy time. I replied that I’m the one who knows where all the mistakes are.

I guess this is good to know. I'm a few months to the end of my master thesis. I few sorry for the poor soul that will read my text.

I tell freshmen that the oral exam in Logic and sets is hell for me because I've been to it a thousand times before. But they don't have any sypmathy for their interrogator. By the way, we think oral exams are a very good idea.
